Friday Frolics

Took today off to enjoy the lovely sunshine. I went for an early brisk walk with my backpack full of library books.Coventry 01-08-2008 09-30-47 I stopped by the New Inn Bridge on Longford Road and took photographs of the calm Coventry Canal.  How I wish the canal is safe enough for people to walk alone? Kevin did promise me that he'll keep me company (on his mobility scooter) when he's feeling much better, Muchas gracias babe. Muah...

I followed a couple of walkers along the pedestrian walk behind the Arena up to Judds Lane Bridge. There was a narrowboat moored for the night, a meadow full of wildflowers, swans, ducks, coots and moorhens swimming lazily, singing birds and lovely sunshine. The walkers continued on and I reluctantly had to turn back.

I went into the library to return and borrow more books. It is good to see the library full and buzzing. The elders are reading the papers, teenagers on the computers and young children engrossed with picture books. And it's not even 10am.

Kevin and I later went into the city centre. It was a shock to the system to see the city buzzing on a Friday. We'd forgotten that it was the school break. We'd to drive around twice to find a space for Benzy.

We walked past throngs of harassed parents and their offspring. After completing our errands, I decided to pop into Primark. Thankfully, not busy. Kevin spotted a green(ish) jacket and asked me to get it. I've got a red one but he thinks that it is too obvious when we are in the reserve. The natives could see me from a distance.

I got a very nice surprise at the till when the cashier says it's only £2. What??? I'd to ask her twice and made sure it's correct. The tag price was £10 down from £15. Hey? Who's complaining :-).

At TJHughes, I bought 2 packs of Elizabeth Arden serum capsules. They are for anti-wrinkle, age defence blah, blah...I need all the help I can get.

The weather had been so unpredictable the whole week. Thunderstorms caused flash floods one day and the next day, temperatures soared bringing a touch of the Mediterranean. Warwick University Coventry 28-07-2008 13-55-47My colleagues and I had a pub lunch at the Varsity soaking up the sunshine.

It was supposed to be a farewell lunch for P who's contract was up in August. Later, he found out that he'll stay on until September. I wonder how someone could live like that. I couldn't!!!

The 2nd phase of a massive project to replace gas pipes on one of Coventry's busiest roads had begun. Major disruptions was expected as gas suppliers National Grid continued to install new plastic pipelines along Gibbet Hill Road. Thankfully, it didn't happen because of the school holidays and the University summer break. Phew...

And I found this oasis hidden in the University grounds. Warwick University Coventry 29-07-2008 13-30-19 It was unbelievably calm, the sound of tinkling waterfalls and beautiful goldfishes chasing each other in the pool. What a way to spend my lunch break. I must remember to get back to work :-).
