Simple pleasures are truly simple treasures...

I enjoy gardening. If I'm at home and the weather is fine, I'm always in the garden. There are plenty of things to do. Weeding, watering, staking, budheading, slug/snail hunting, rearranging, feeding, repotting and photographing.

I think I've got the most photographed garden. We photographed anything that catches our fancy. Plants, spiders, butterflies, bees, neighbours cats, birds, clouds, anything.

During the weekend, I'll have my breakfast in the garden while reading the papers. The birds will be singing and the sun on my back. I also have a special corner, partly hidden by the Japanese Maple tree (gorgeous in Autumn), pink astibles and the wigwam of cucumbers, peas and sweet-smelling sweet peas. My favourite place to read. Bliss...

I've got 12 pots of 13 anti-social sunflowers. Coventry 06-08-2008 19-41-03 It should be 11 cos we live at no. 11; 13 cos one's a twin (?); anti-social cos they are facing outwards into our neighbours garden. I kept on turning the pots so that they face inwards but they kept on turning behind my back. Doesn't help when they are called to attention by the sun. :-).

For the past month, I've been eating from the garden. Chinese cabbage, pak choi, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, dwarf beans, chives, spring onions, courgettes, fennel and peas. Soon cucumbers, aubergines, peppers, chard, radishes, figs and hopefully, pumpkin.  Also carefully tending a lemon grass bush. The blueberries failed to stick due to the recent stormy weather.

I've not been watching tv since Euro 2008 was over. I find the news too depressing and tend to spend the time either in the garden, reading or playing Sudoku. But not for long. CSI: Miami is back. Yaay...Tuesday was the start of the new season. I really miss Horatio Caine. Sorry darling.

CSI: Miami's sixth season opens with a shocker. And get ready for the one-liner, “Two thousand cases and now two thousand suspects.” Cheesetastic (Cheesy fantastic, according to CC). Welcome back Horatio. Now for the return of CSI and CSI New York.

Are you going to watch the Olympics? I'm torn between supporting the sports vs China's appalling human rights issues. In the end, we decided to only watch the events where athletes competing are from the UK and Malaysia. I've never missed watching the opening ceremony before and today I did just that.

I left work early today cos I need to see the doctor. I need a letter for my travel to Malaysia in October. I'll be in transit in Dubai. I'll be carrying some medicines with me and Dubai are very strict regarding this. So better be safe just in case they decided to do a body search/check my luggage.

Later in the evening, we decided to see what the natives at the Brandon Marsh Coventry 08-08-2008 18-12-31Marsh are up to. Since it was quite late, they are winding down for the night. The usual culprits are there but more subdued. It felt very strange walking through a quiet nature reserve. Bonne nuit.
