Took the day off to spend Valentines Day with my husband.
We exchanged hugs and kisses, cards, red roses, chocolates,
and a DKNY watch (for me), a Chinese meal and a
fantastic day at Warwick Castle.
We don't need St. Valentine to remind us that we love one another.
After 10 years it kind of comes naturally.
Valentines Day is just an excuse to join in the fun.
The finest medieval fortress in Britain,
Warwick Castle, stands above the River Avon.
William the Conqueror built the first castle in 1068.
It was home to the Earls of Warwick until 1978
when it was bought by the Tussaud's group.
Wax figures were created to help portray life in the Castle
during different periods of its history.
It was at one of the dark, smelly dungeons when
I found a dummy who was actually a 'live' person,
he was standing in shadow and
I just jumped when he moved.
Every time I passed a figure, after that,
I tend to double check,
just in case.
We saw the lavish State Rooms, the baronial Great Hall,
the French chapel with beautiful stained glass and explored
the Mill and Engine House.
The Castle is set in 60 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens.
We saw peacocks among the bushes and snowdrops under the trees.
It was a beautiful afternoon, strolling the grounds
with its full sized replica trebuchet, boat house, and
various knight in shining armour.
We watched the geese fly down by the river
and took more than 200 photographs.
There were re-enactments of bloody battles and woeful wars.
The ground was littered with little knights and their plastic swords,
bows and arrows scaring the ghosts of the Castle.
It was a really nice day.
