Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head…

And on everything else…Another wet, cold and windy Sunday. We dragged ourselves to the marsh before the heavens opened. Guess what? The natives decided to have a lie-in. It was soo quiet. I bet they are mad at us for disturbing their sleep :-)

We went straight to Carlton hide Brandon Marsh Coventry 26-07-2009 08-47-53 and it was packed…it’s not even 9.30am. Twitchers waiting for the kingfisher to make an appearance. He didn’t turn up while we were there but this lovely Little Grebe kept us busy with his antics. Isn’t he gorgeous?

3 Redshanks were busy feeding along the mud banks.Brandon Marsh Coventry 26-07-2009 08-42-24 A moorhen was busy feeding her 2 fluffy chicks and teals scavenging among the reeds.  A juvenile Great Spotted woodpecker was seen scaling up the dead tree beside the hide. We could also see the rain clouds ready to burst. We make a quick exit.

Yesterday, my colleagues and I gathered at the Noodle Bar. We pondered, deliberated and dissected over the menu and ordered the same thing as before!!! It was hilarious. We tried our best not to discuss about work but it kept on popping up. To be honest, it was the worst meet we ever had.

We went our separate ways but CC and I went to the public library. I returned/borrow some books and reserved a book my friend wrote. I’m glad her book is doing well. Well done.

When we came out of Coventry city centre 25-07-2009 13-43-55 the library, there was a large crowd surrounding 2 gorillas??? Am I seeing things??? What’s going on? As usual I took a few photographs and asked someone with a name tag what’s up?

It was Play the Streets event which marks the start of Coventry’s summer programme, Celebrating Coventry. The aim was to bring the city centre streets alive with events which celebrate the wealth and creative talent in the city. These performers in the gorilla suit were soo real that it was frightening.

Outside Broadgate, under the naked Coventry city centre 25-07-2009 14-53-02 eyes of Lady Godiva, it  felt like the carnival has come to town. Colourful dancers with pulsating music kept everyone swaying to the beat. What a lovely day to spend a Saturday afternoon and for once, the sun came out to play.

These days of interspersed  downpours and heat waves has resulted in my garden suddenly growing whoosh…The runner beans areFrom our Home and Garden bursting with fiery red blossoms and baby pods forming here and there. And it caught the attention of this juvenile pigeon. I caught him pecking and eating my bean shoots. Hey…SHOOSH…

On Monday was the 40th anniversary of ‘That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind …’A very remarkable achievement. It also coincides with Isra’ Miraj. In the Islamic faith, the 27th day of Rejab, marks the ascension of the Prophet (pbuh) to heaven, his meeting with the earlier prophets and his revelations from Allah that all Muslims must pray 5 times a day.

Referring to this day, the Koran said in Chapter 17 (Al-Israa’, Verse 1: “Glory be to Him who made His servant go in the night from the Sacred Mosque to the remote mosque of which We have blessed the precincts, so that We may show to Him some of Our signs; surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

The observance of the Prophet’s (pbuh) journey is an occasion that must be used to highlight his teachings on peace, moderation, tolerance and harmony among Muslims and non-Muslims. Let us instil these in our hearts and minds and use them to strengthen our faith and the quest for peace and prosperity. Amen.

I also went for a lunchtime tree hugging session. :-) Actually it was a walk around campus identifying the various trees. I was impressed by the head groundsman, RW. He knew the scientific names of all the trees, why it was grown and when it was grown. Wow…

And the craziest thing was that it was raining cats and dogs and we could cancel the walk if we wish. But the 10 of us were determined to go on. Loco or what???It was f-u-n. We’d a good laugh, a good knowledge of trees, good company and soaking wet. We came across the oldest tree in campus, a 800 year old ancient oak, gnarled but still standing. It was just too wet to get a photo. A first for me…

I also tried a new recipe. I made  kebab and had it with tzatziki and whole wheat tortillas. It was the first time I made tzatziki and used ordinary yoghurt instead of Greek yoghurt. I goggled and you could strain it to make it thicker but Babe told me not to bother. It works!!!The cool, tangy flavours really complements the kebab eaten rolled in the tortilla. Delicious…

Hoped you had a dry weekend…
