Ouch!!!

A week ago, my colleagues and I had our usual badminton sessions after work. I found a good way to end the day and release whatever tensions at work I’d on the court before heading home. Guess what ? I think I overdid it. I’ve sprained my bicep muscles (ouch, ouch) and now on sick leave for 10 working days which meant 2 weeks off work.

It didn’t hurt that day, just the usual aches and pains. Brandon Marsh D200 27-07-2010 13-00-11 I was at work on Thursday but by late evening, my arm was throbbing. I couldn’t sleep at all that night and went to the doctor the next morning. He thought that I’d strained something, prescribed painkillers and wants to see me again next week. After taking the tablets, I went back to work. By lunch-time the pain was so unbearable and asked permission to go home.

I had a miserable weekend and was in tears the whole time. I tried using a hot water bottle and it hurt more. Babe suggested cold compress and it eased the pain. What a relief. I was so attached to my painkillers that my eyes were always on the clock for my next fix. The worst thing was that about an hour or so before the next course, my arm started throbbing and even if I managed to fall asleep, I’ll suddenly wake-up. It was kinda scary. I guess that was how people become addicted.

Monday couldn’t come quicker…Why not a visit to A&E you might ask? We did think about it but not on a weekend. You need to be dying to be seen to quickly.

Allah was on my side cos I managed to see a doctor that morning. After being prodded and stretched with moi screaming in pain, the nice doctor confirmed that I’d sprained my bicep muscles. It would take me at least 8 weeks to heal properly. What??? A facture heals faster than a sprain. I must remember that the next time I decided to smash the shuttlecock :-0

So here I’m, resting and being thoroughly looked after hand and foot by Babe. Thanks a million darling. It was difficult for him too cos he was also unwell. What a sorry pair we are huh? But so far we managed v-e-r-y slowly.

I was given Co-codamol for pain relief and Voltarol to reduce swelling and ease inflammation. They helped but the side effects were horrible. The nausea and headache had thankfully gone but there was the stomach irritation, dry mouth and worse, constipation. So plenty of water and fruits were suggested and lots of walks to keep the bowels working.

I spent the days just chilling out. Coventry D300s 27-07-2010 11-00-22 Lots of reading, doing the Sudoku and watching the bird-feeder. Everytime, I looked there was always a visitor. i was excited to see a chaffinch and a juvenile today. There was the usual robin, wren, wood pigeons, collared doves, Dunnock, house sparrows, blue tits and starlings. and off course, Mr. Bushy Tail…

I prayed for rain so that the gardens will be watered.Coventry D200 27-07-2010 11-45-30 So far, it was being answered. Thank you. I’ve still got tomato plants that needed planting into a bigger pot.  The lavender, hebe and buddleia were attracting butterflies and bees into the garden. Just look at my ripening blueberries and fruiting yellow courgettes. I’ve picked a few ripe berries and they tasted just heaven. Couldn’t wait to harvest the courgettes. I have bunches of delicious smelling sweet peas in the casa, bringing the sunshine indoors.Coventry D200 27-07-2010 11-48-38

I’d a few things lined up this week which I’ve missed. Yesterday was the dinner at Wing Wah with CC, DC and PB. We’d planned this for the past 3 months and I was soo looking forward to it. I wonder if they still went ahead. I hoped they did. I could still join them but I don’t think I’ll be good company. And furthermore, I’ve sprained my chopstick arms :-)

Today would be the badminton charity match against FM. I was soo looking forward to FM blazing to glory. I hoped she smashed everyone. You go girl…

Next week will be DH’s retirement do. She is a popular staff in the building, well-known for her gorgeous cakes. I’ve agreed to contribute somethng for her party, most probably spring rolls. but i guess that’s a big no then. I might give her a call before she leaves just to wish her all the best.

I’m pleased that I’ve finished the urgent Harvard case studies that RP requested for the student. The Official and British publications were already processed and ready for collection. There were only books that needed checking left on my table. Nothing urgent and fingers crossed all can wait for my return.

My arm are starting to twitch now…and guess what. It’s time for my pain-killers :-)

Take good care of yourself and each other.
