The Nation Remembers

15 soldiers killed in the past 10 days. We saw photos of fresh-faced optimism leaving for Afghanistan and then to see them return home in flag-draped coffins.

What are the political and military responses to this situation? …Silence…, despite the PM’s latest attempt  to explain. The nation has a duty not to order its forces into conflicts which result in nothing but  the loss of life. Apart from that, the true number of civilians killed in the Afghan conflict will probably never be known. And could someone please explain what’s our role in Afghanistan??? And how many more flag-draped coffins will be coming home!!!

On Tuesday a memorial was held in London for the victims of the 2005 July 7th bombings. In Hyde Park, 52 stainless steel pillars representing the 52 lives that were sadly lost that day was unveiled.

Let us not forget these poor people and soldiers who were injured and killed in these mindless acts of war and terrorism. My heart goes to all and to the families they left behind. May they never be forgotten.

On the same day too was a memorial service for Michael Jackson. His family and fans have said farewell to the pop superstar at the emotional service. I didn’t like the fact that his coffin was placed in front of the stage during the event. It was heart wrenching when Paris, fought back tears to describe him as "the best father you could ever imagine". Good night MJ.

Left work early cos Oasis was rocking at the Ricoh. I did mentioned before that our life revolves around what’s going on at the stadium. It was strange cos when Take That was here we saw grandmas, mothers, daughters (males included) in their best behaviour.

Oasis??? We saw testosterones  with beer bottles in tracksuits behaving badly. What’s going on? It doesn’t help when Oasis seems to be fuelling this bad boy (?) attitude. My friend who was there told me that at the concert, Liam dictated a song to the REAL Sky Blue which was Manchester City. It caused a lot of booing among the crowd cos Coventry football club was also known as Sky Blue. That made the gig-goers really look back in anger.

I took Wednesday off cos it’s the Staff Open Day and I just don’t want to be there. I can’t pretend things to be hunky-dory. I rather be somewhere else. We went shopping in Asda where I treated myself to a white linen blouse and a brown knitted shrug. Babe got himself a lovely green shirt and a pair of shoes. We spent the day messing about in the garden.

On Friday, my colleagues and I received another blow. The post was de(down)graded to a humiliating 3. WTF…All of us got up and left. We were speechless. We will regroup on Monday to put our thinking caps on.God help us…

Yesterday, we just chilled out. The weather was as miserable as me. We went to TK Maxx cos I need cheering up desperately. I bought an Oscar De La Renta sunglasses, A Cath Kidston Rose soap and a box of vintage soaps. That put a smile on my face :-).

And today, we make an early trip to the Marsh. Brandon Marsh Coventry 12-07-2009 09-50-29 Early???The car park was full when we arrived. Hmm…there was a fishing competition going on and also a ‘wild’ birthday party for a lucky kid. How I wish I was a kid again…

Apart from the usual culprits, we spotted a pair of red shanks feeding among the lapwings, moorhen and teals.  At Carlton Hide, the kingfisher posed for us and Babe was busy trying to capture the perfect moment when a tern dived into the water.Brandon Marsh Coventry 12-07-2009 10-55-33

On the way back, the sun decided to come out and play. We spotted a lot of ladybirds basking among the nettles and beautiful butterflies  flirting among the bushes.

At home, we decided to walked to Tesco for a bit of shopping. They have changed the Sunday opening hours again. At first it was 10-4, then 12-6 and now 11-5pm. Make up your mind!!! We bought the usual boring stuff for my lunch at work and the Sunday papers. Got another voucher where you spend £40 and got £6 0ff. We also got vouchers from Morisson. It seems that every one wants your £££. If only we have more…

I do hope you have a lovely weekend and please say a prayer for those who have lost their lives…Amen.
