I am utterly ignorant of/at tennis. I’ve tried my hand at it but I’d a hard time adjusting since I’m a badminton player. They are two very entirely different games. Since I’ve been playing badminton at a very young age (both parents are badminton players), I prefer to stick to what I know and play best.
But not this week. Wimbledon had come into town and I blamed Andy Murray for keeping me on the edge of my seat. The polite roar of the crowd, the delicious thwack of tennis balls and scrumptious strawberries with cream were also essential soundtrack for this summer. Plus the players are fine looking too.:-)
A pity Murray isn’t in the finals. But there’s always next year and fingers-crossed he’ll be a stronger fighting machine. Congratulations to Serena Williams and Roger Federer for being champions again. Federer becomes the greatest player in Grand Slam history as he beats Andy Roddick 16-14 in the fifth set for a sixth Wimbledon and 15th major title.
Being at work is like sitting on centre court watching the game unfold. You don’t know what’s the outcome. You keep arguing with the umpire who you knew had already made their minds up although they say they are open to ideas. We attended meetings and consultations but the same songs were played.
It was a waste of time, energy and space. There were heated discussions among those affected. Senior managers just closed their doors and sat quietly in their cells. Moi, I kept my mouth zipped but eyes and ears open. I’ll fight for my place when the time comes and I’ll definitely be making my own racket. Wish me luck…
The weather was as scorching outside as it was inside. Summer has definitely arrived. It was nice to walk in the lovely sunshine during my lunch break, letting off steam.
“Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it” ~Russel Baker~
Have you seen this campaign?
A "Positive Handprint" defined:
An action which improves and restores the Earth; enhancing its capacity to adapt for change and provide for the needs of future generations. Its not just about reducing your negative carbon footprint; its about what you can do for the earth with your hands.
It was a nice change to see a ‘positive’ campaign—telling us what to do ourselves to improve Mother Earth, rather than being told what we shouldn’t be doing.
Yesterday, we went to our usual playground. We walked through the forests and as usual, the orchestra was on full blasts. I thought in this hot, humid weather, they might at least have a little siesta. Wishful thinking huh?
We went to Steely Hide and when we opened the flap..tada..a lovely snow white Little Egret was feeding in front of us. Oh my…this is the second time in 3 years we saw this beautiful bird. It was busy criss crossing on the mud banks searching for morsels.
All you could hear were our cameras clicking away. I’d to hold my breath when a heron who was also fishing nearby came over to check out this gorgeous bird encroaching in its territory. It was like a scene from high noon. They got closer and closer, eyeing each other. I was expecting a fight but they just kept on walking. Phew…
At the pond, the dragonflies were busy doing what they do best. Making sweet music and laying eggs. There were soo many of them and I bet there’s going to be a bumper dragonflies this summer.
I hoped you enjoyed the sun but don’t forget the sun cream.
