The past few days were unbearably cold. According to the weatherman, Coventry was shivering under the coldest February for nearly 20 years. We were shrouded by rime which was crystallised fog ice that settled on the ground. During the day, we'd long sunny spells with no clouds and at night this developed into frost and freezing fog. It doesn't add up cos despite the freezing frost, it was also the warmest February. Hmm...
Yesterday, we went to the Belgrade Theatre to checkout the Coventry Arts Mela, a showcase of South Asian musical and creative arts from local community groups. There were workshops and stalls featuring all things from beauty to crafts to authentic Indian food.
From 2pm, the main stage came to life with a blend of colourful performances. We thoroughly enjoyed the Bhangra and Raas dances, tabla and sitar recitals. Unfortunately, you can't take any photos. Grr...
This new B2 auditorium was the centrepiece of a recent £14m redevelopment project. It was officially opened by Prince Edward on 4th Feb.The Theatre was originally opened by the Duchess of Kent in 1958. We were intrigued by the numerous sculptures dotted at the entrance.
We left early cos we wanted to be home before the fans left the Ricoh. Under their new manager, Chris Coleman, the Sky Blues defeated Leicester 2:0. Again, the beautiful game was marred by violence which flared in Earlsdon High Street. No wonder we saw policemen standing at every corner.
From 25 February to 11 March will be Fairtrade Fortnight in the UK. Fairtrade labelling was created in the Netherlands in the late 1980s. The main aim was to create awareness among consumers about the goods they purchase. We do try our best to buy Fairtrade and like organic are expensive. Why???
