Depressing Week???

Fungus on a boot cleaner

Monday the 21st was regarded as the most depressing day of the year. Why? Xmas and New Year celebrations are just memories; it is the end of most peoples holidays; resolutions already broken and pay day another week to wait. It is still the time of year when you wake up in the dark, go to work in the dark, come home in the dark, go to bed in the dark. But so far, I managed to breeze through.

On Wednesday and Thursday was the winter degree congregation. The onslaught added to the the already congested traffic and the never-ending roadworks making staff late for work. There was also a massive jam when everyone decided to leave at 5.30pm. Thankfully, we have to endure this only twice a year :-)

On Friday, I was looking forward to have my hair cut. I'd made the appointment earlier during the week. When I reached there, the blondie informed me that I can't have it done cos the stylist wasn't available. *%~& I blew my top. They did not even have the courtesy to give me a call. How rude was that. She wanted me to come the next day. I just told her to forget it. I cooled down on a summer fruit smoothie from Costa which cost me £3 for a medium glas!!!.

It was also Robert Burns (25th Jan 1759-21st July 1796) Supper Day. I wanted to get some vegetarian haggis to celebrate the Scottish Bard's birthday but there was none. We'd to make do with grilled beef sausages, tatties (potatoes) and 3-cheese coleslaw (sorry, no netties/turnips) for dinner. Together with all the Scots around the world, we give a toast to Burns and address the haggis, the ladies and the whiskey.

Yesterday was another football match at the Ricoh. It was an explosive encouter for the Sky Blues in their bid to secure a passage to the fifth round of the FA Cup. They were against the south London club, Millwall. Congratulations for winning 2:1. A pity the beautiful game was marred with violent clashes between the supporters. From the casa, we could see and hear the police helicopter busy at work.

I wanted to go into town to stock up my Lush toiletries. Kevin also wanted to nip into Ikea. We drove into our usual multi-storey car-park and found it closed for maintenance. A few cars were already making dangerous 3-point turn at the entrance. I could feel my temperature rising another notch. Why wasn't a sign erected at the turn-off into the car-park? We changed our minds about spending our £ in town and went to a nearby retail park. We checked out Hobby Craft and came out with a few bibs and bobs for our latest hobby, card-making.

We also went to B&Q. I bought a few packs of Sweet Williams and polyanthus which were on sale. These will definitely brighten the very bare, frozen garden. I spent the whole of this morning replanting them in pots and planters all over the place. Hopefully they will survive any cold snaps.

In the afternoon, we went to the Arena Park Public Library to return/borrow some books. We also purchased some posters. The thing that irritate both of us is why the long face? How did they get the job in the first place? No thank you, not even a smile. Is that too much? We decided that we are never going to tolerate such rudeness and just blank them.

I guess the prediction at the beginning was correct. But for me, it seemed to go downhill as the week progresses. But at least, this photograph made me smile. Kevin spotted our rabbit-shaped shoe-brush covered with fungi. They can really grow in the most unexpected places. There must be light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Happy birthday to CYH.

Sorry to CK for not getting the job. Their loss...
