What happened? I had never seen such a lack lustre performance in my life. I do now believe there's a real, real danger of England going out. What was wrong with these players tonight?
I couldn’t remember the last time Rooney played as badly as this and Gerard was all over the place. My heart was in my mouth when Terry under-hit a back-pass but fortunately James react quickly.
Wednesday is D day for England. They have to win against Slovenia to book their place in the last 16. Defeat means that Capello's side can start booking a late June holiday. I really, really want to believe in them but it is almost impossible. I’m glad to be proven wrong.
First and foremost great respect to Algeria. And on a day when Serbia had already upset Germany 1:0 and tiny Slovenia contained the USA 2:2, Algeria produced a stunner of its own. Algeria fully deserved the point and they celebrated with such elation at the final whistle and just look at their joyous fans.
What a comparison to the boos ringing around the Cape Town Stadium as the 40k England’s supporters register their dismay at what they have just seen. The frosty relationship between players and supporters was expected. Rooney's comments as he walked off the field, saying to an on-field camera "nice to see your own fans boo you". Hmm…he needs to grow up.
My highlight was when the cameras caught the honeymoon couple from AFC Bournemouth smooching away. Get a room guys :-). Also seen was a bird settling on the Algerian goal stanchion during the game!!!It showed that the goal post was not tested at all.
Babe said that if he’d known how dismal the match was, we would have gone to our favourite playground and got wet in the rain. We’d fish and chips for dinner so that I have ample time to settle in front of the screen. I’d my football tee on and was raring to go. England’s performance dampened everything…sigh!!!
Today, during my lunch break, my colleagues and I went for a hooping session at the Student Union. It’s another form of aerobic activity using hula hoop exercises to firm, tone and burn body fat. The hoops used aren't the standard toy you played with as a child. These are large, customized hoops weighted especially for the activity.
We had lots of fun and laughter trying to keep the hula hoop up around our waist while rotating our hips. Fast paced cardio music made it more enjoyable. We did punching exercises, walking back and forwards and even dancing while hooping. Not an easy feat.
It was such a good and happy session that most of us thought of purchasing one. According to the American Council on Exercise, you should burn approximately 200 calories if you work out for 30 minutes. And you could do it anywhere, anytime. We hooped for the Right to Play charity. Not bad for a Friday afternoon.
On Monday, Janet brought a delicious scrumptious chocolate cake for the office. It was her birthday. Happy 50th. We proceeded in the evening to the Noodle Bar to celebrate after work. I’d my usual Fried Udon with seafood special and Chinese vegetables washed down with pots of steaming Chinese cha. Good food, lovely company. I also had a takeaway for babe’s dinner. Cheers CJC for giving me a lift home.
Did you see the CSI season finale? OMG,
I didn’t expect that at all. Langston stabbed several times by Haskell, the jailed serial killer, injured him badly, and left him lying next to the jail cell. What a cliff hanger. Couldn’t wait…
Babe joined me for my lunch walk when we spotted this handsome guy. He was enjoying basking in the warm sunshine on top of the lily pads beside the International Digital Lab. We also saw a few damselflies making out. And I think this guy doesn’t understand that three’s definitely a crowd :-).
Buzz off and snare your own partner…
We also said goodbye and good luck to JR, our American intern. We brought some food and had a lovely time polishing them up and promises to keep in touch. 3 weeks just flew by. Her daughter will meet her in London and then they are going clubbing. Go girl go!!!
We hoped you’ll have a safe trip back to Arizona and have fond memories of your stay here in the UK.
Babe wanted to check the dragonflies by the fountain again. Unfortunately they were not there but these 3 guys (below) caught my attention. They’d their heads in beer boxes and were singing merrily. They were heading to the student Union bar and I guess they must be going to see the football match between France and Mexico. Ooh la la…I wonder who they are supporting?
Will England be in the last 16?
Will they roar or will they have their tails between their legs? Good luck boys for Wednesday.
