Lord Robert Winston, the “Circle of Life”, God and Stalker Ducks…..

I just love this beautiful shot of the woodpecker and junior taken by Babe. It’s not fair. It was a fabulous summer day, I was stuck in the office when the photograph was e-mailed to me. Jealous, moi??? You bet!!!Brandon Marsh Coventry 01-06-2009 10-02-47

He went again the next day and e-mailed me this lovely sensuous circle. Fingers-crossed, there’s going to be lots and lots of dragon-flies flirting in the nature reserve. There wasn’t hardly any last summer due to the bad weather.

On Monday, Babe and I attended a lecture ‘Religion, Medical Ethics and Public Life’ by Lord Robert Winston, the renowned fertility expert. The sold-out lecture was supposed to be held in February but was cancelled due to bad weather.

Lord Winston discussed the Brandon Marsh Coventry 01-06-2009 10-57-46 relationship between religion and science and the meaning to be human. He stated that the rising interest in the printing of DNA for improving health care is an example of science delusion.

I was lost during the talk cos he tends to jump from one topic to another. He touched on why the Towel of Babel was painted in different ways; what Stonehenge was about; the relationship between the caves of Pyrenees and Gaza; Galileo’s arrogance brought his undoing; Victor Frankel, an Auschwitz’s survivor, beliefs; his Jewish beliefs and that life is sacred cos we we’re created in God’s image.

Babe said that Lord Winston used a lot of words but didn’t say anything much. He looked exhausted and we felt that he doesn’t want to be here!!! He also seemed to be at war with Richard Dawkins from the number of times the name came up and even showed a clip of his arch-rival.

The audience asked a lot of questions. Unfortunately, to his mind, only a few related to the topic and more to his work as a fertility expert.

He refused to answer these questions and looked quite uncomfortable. The persona he projected on tv was quite the opposite.

One of the audience left when he kept on saying that he doesn’t understand what she was saying. Hmmm… He did not seem to understand that most, if not all of the audience, could see a direct correlation between the “creation” of life by fertility technology with the question of medical ethics and God, the basic premise of the lecture………anyway, as the man said, “I just want to write my book”.

At work, we received an email that the HN1V1 virus reached the campus. A post-graduate student residing in the university was confirmed to have diagnosed with swine flu - the second case to be confirmed in Coventry. It is believed to be the first case of swine flu to be diagnosed on a UK university campus. Get well soon.

Lectures and other university activities continued as normal. So, I guess nothing to worry about but need to be vigilant.

I also attended a Careers Management workshop. I’m not thinking of changing my job but just wanted to know that I’m doing things right. We’d a lot of practical sessions, including finding out what transferable skills we processed which I found very useful. From this workshop, I knew I was in the right profession. All I need are a few projects yearly to keep me in tip top condition.

Did you exercise your rights on Thursday? I did mine through postal voting. I just do not want to be harassed by the canvassers by the polling station. I’d a bad experience a few years back when they started to invade my personal space.

I was walking by the lake enjoying myWarwick University Coventry 05-06-2009 12-41-48 lunch break when I felt something following me. I turned and hello, these gorgeous fellas were tagging behind me. I was soo tempted to throw some breadcrumbs and see if they would follow me back to the office. Wouldn’t it be hilarious…

Anyway, what shall I do today? It’s raining and it’s freezing cold. It was suppose to be a dirty weekend and my bright red wellingtons need some airing. I might just do the shopping in them.

Have a very, very dirty weekend :-).
