The coldest snap for 20 years shows no sign of letting up, with the freezing weather (and snow) expected to last all weekend and into next week. Yes...
Snow is a love-it or hate-it phenomenon. Either you think it's great fun and an excuse to enjoy yourself, or a nuisance and a reason to stay indoors. And I guess you know where I stand.
Yesterday,
we wanted to see how the bambi's are doing in Bradgate Park. We were surprised to see the parking lot nearly full. The sun's out, it's freezing cold and the park is covered with snow. Bet, everyone wants to get some fresh air and perhaps throw a snowball or two.
The park was like a winter wonderland.
The white stuff was everywhere and I couldn't help trampling and kicking about. I wanted to make someone in Aberystwyth very jealous. They only had rain....
Over the hills, children were screaming their head off sliding down on makeshifts sledges. Daddies pulling their little ones on toboggans. Snowmen of various shapes and sizes dotted the landscape. Everyone had a great time and so did we.
We'd a fabulous time taking photographs of this beautiful park. There was so many things to keep us occupied.
The ancient trees looking majestic in the stark background. Deer were feeding among the undergrowth. As usual, the resident rooks making themselves heard. Ducks, gulls and moorhen swimming in the river.
We also spotted a flock of redwings
near the ruins of the Bradgate House. They were feeding on the berries that had fallen from the trees. These birds were known to strip bare a tree before moving on.
We left around 2 pm so that we'll reached our casa when the football fans were already in the Ricoh. There was a home derby between the Sky Blues and Wolverhampton.
Westwood saved Ebanks-Blake's injury-time penalty to ensure Coventry hung on to all three points against the Coca-Cola Championship leaders. I could hear the fans thunderous singing, chanting and clapping from my casa. Well done.
Today, we wanted to see how the natives were doing at the Marsh. It was bitterly cold and also snow-covered. Not much action cos the lakes were frozen. I hand fed a few robins along the path. They trained me so well :-)
Along the wooded paths, Babe spotted tree-creeper
and got some lovely shots. I was too busy observing the antics of a few blackbirds scratching and shovelling the fallen leaves.
We did some shopping on the way home. When we left Morisson, it was raining. By the time we reached our casa, it was s-n-o-w-i-n-g again. Big, big smiles.
On the news, the weatherman predicted that a winter storm is set to bring snow and heavy rain to parts of the UK tomorrow. The blizzard is due to arrive in southern England and Wales on Monday afternoon, spread to the Midlands and continue overnight into Tuesday. According to Babe, our casa is right on its path. Crikey!!!
I do hope the Uni will allow us to leave early. Fingers and toes double-crossed :-).
