Brr!!!Even these swans are dancing on thin ice.
I'd a good laugh watching this lovely pair slipping and sliding on the semi-frozen lake. We were in Brandon Marsh this morning with goodies for the robins. Only a few were brave enough and they were busy chasing each other from their territory.
Yesterday we went into the city centre to see the Coventry Morris men in action. They are doing their thing as part of the 59th Annual Sword Tour. I do hope this form of dancing survive.
The Morris Ring, which incorporates 200 UK dancing groups, revealed that the age of people taking up the pastime is increasing while overall numbers decline. The younger generation are just too embarrassed to take part. I guess like other traditions it will be confined to history books and tourist attractions.
Coventry has been chosen as the host city for the 2009 Holocaust Memorial Day. It will take place on Sunday, 25 January, but various events was already taking place at venues across the city.
We went to see 'Shoes of Memory: Holocaust Ceramic Work' by Jenny Stolzenberg at the Herbert Art Gallery. It featured 70 life-size ceramic shoes – reflecting the piles of shoes found at Auschwitz. It was displayed in the underground croft and the scene was quite dramatic. Unfortunately, flash photography was not permitted.
Then we went to the Cathedral to check out the Anne Frank and You exhibition .This multimedia exhibition includes newly discovered photographs of Anne and her sister Margot, an interactive virtual tour of Anne’s room in the secret annexe, powerful film footage, and pieces of Anne’s writing set against images of the social issues that affect us in the 21st century.
Unfortunately, the queue was too long and we decided to come another day. We took the opportunity to wander around this beautiful cathedral and add more photographs to our collection.
The new working week was known as the big freeze. We often left the casa under sleet and snow.
During one of my lunch break, as I walked in the snow showers, I came across this hedgehog. He should be hibernating. I used a plastic bag and moved him to the undergrowth and covered him as much as I could. I hoped he'll make it.
JM brought lots of goodies cos it was her birthday. And there were sinful titbits from Tunisia courtesy of GLW. Guess the party mood keeps on going. We also had a farewell do for SS who is escaping to Durham. All the best SS.
I caused a furore at work when I spotted a pair of fieldfare outside my window. My colleagues just don't get it but
I guess they are used to my loco ways by now :-).
Today 879 Palestinians and 13 Israelis have been killed during the 16-day conflict. How many more??? Demonstrations were held around the world to call for an end to the violence and an immediate cease fire in Gaza. I felt so helpless and I wanted to do something. I might attend the peaceful gathering outside the town hall tomorrow
