Yesterday was World Book Day and it was to be a celebration with a look at how we can all enjoy books. But did anybody notice? I only knew about it when I passed the Uni's bookshop which has a few posters on the window.
World Book Day is a celebration of books and reading being marked in more than 100 countries around the world. Most of the other countries will have it on 23rd April every year.
So to everyone out there, lets curl up with a good book. I've still got a pile to keep me company.
It was still cold, and despite some early promise of a warm March, it proved to be anything but. The coats, hats, scarves, gloves and boots were still in full use and central heating was a must on some evenings. The only thing that gave any indication that spring may be just around the corner were these beautiful crocus which I stumbled during my walk. They brought life and colour as winter (hopefully) comes to an end.
It was not only cold outside but indoors too. I'd to keep my scarf and have an extra cardigan on. But my nose and fingers were freezing. The office thermometer just scraped above the minimum requirement. We complained bitterly and I told SH if my toes turned purple (I suffer from chilblains), I'm going home. They supplied us with portable heaters(?). Why can't they just fix the bloody heating system?
We'd a Performance Management Framework meeting. How on earth are we going to perform when we're freezing? It's not a comfortable, working environment.
Then ClassWeb was inaccessible since Monday. OCLC have not received the cheque. But according to FO, the subscription renewal was made ages ago. I need ClassWeb to assign subject headings and class numbers. I plodded on relying on my previous records on OPAC and concentrate on the bibliographic records.
On Tuesday, Warwick STAR (Student Action for Refugees) took over the Piazza with sleeping bags, tents, live music and talks. They were spending the cold nights under the stars to raise awareness of the 280k rejected asylum seekers who live in destitution on British streets and petitioning the government to take immediate action. It was wonderful to see these kids very passionate of so many noble causes. Good luck to them.
And Sky Blues drew 0:0 to QPR. They are now 4 points above delegation. Wake up boys!!!
Big hugs and kisses for my wonderful mother who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday and also best wishes to JG and Stevie. JG baked a huge very sinful moist fruitcake (more fruit than flour).
