Gathering of the Clans
Last Saturday we attended a barbecue organised by the Malaysian Students Association in the University grounds, by the lake. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day. From a distance, we could hear the laughter and voices intermingled between Malay and English.
It was feast galore and I contributed spring rolls to the groaning spread. There were the obligatory satay, chicken and lamb tandoori, sausages, noodles, sandwiches, kuih-muih, jellies and savoury rice. Bon appetit!!!
I made my rounds and introduced myself to everyone. Most of them are in their finals and this must be their last summer in the UK. I hoped their stay here will be meaningful and cherished forever.
On Sunday, we visited our usual haunt. It was very quiet and we went a different route in search of dragonflies. They were not as abundant as before. Wonder if the recent downpour had washed away the larvae. We also renewed our membership. A year flew by so quickly. Brandon Marsh was an oasis to us when we were new in Coventry. It was a place for us to get away from routine, get close to nature and most importantly indulge in our hobby, photography and bird-watching.
I went with CC to auction in Rugby after work. I had never been to one and CC is a pro. She'd just purchased a house and wants to fill it with pieces withcharacter. I'm not into antiques and haven't got a clue why someone's else 'rubbish' is somebody's else treasure. There was quite a large crowd and the bidding began.
I was there to keep CC on her toes because you can get carried away. I could see her itching to put her paddle up on some pieces. Some of them went for a thousand which was a surprise to both of us because they were really awful. CC brought home a lovely wooden pot stand, 2 original watercolours and a really ratty rug (?).
Can't wait to see where she's going to put them.
