Through the Lens

Yesterday, Babe and I attended the first meeting of the newly formed photography group for the university staff . We were the first to arrive and the others trickled slowly into the room. There were 11 of us and according to the organiser, there were others who couldn’t make it that night.

As usual, first on the agenda was the ice-breaking session. We introduced ourselves, why we were there and what we expected from the group. All of us were amateurs but very keen photographers. We wanted an informal, unpretentious place to talk about photography, share ideas, experiences and inspirations.

We also showcased our photographs, mostly from Flickr. From the photographs, we found out that that we’d different interests. Babe and I enjoyed wildlife and sceneries. Some of the members were into abstracts, portraits, macros and buildings. It was also interesting to see the different cameras being used.

We left at 8pm as it had been a very long day for me. I stayed back for the meeting and Babe joined me at about 6.30pm. I did asked to make it earlier but the plan was to go home, change and return relaxed. Yeah…right. Thankfully, we planned to meet once a month and I guess I can cope with that.

On Tuesday, my colleagues and I congregated to the Noodle Bar after work. We needed something to banish away the February blues. 11 of us squeezed around the biggest round table available in the middle of the restaurant. We could hardly moved. From the noise we made and fun we had, no one would believe we were librarians.Coventry FZ28 09-02-2010 19-17-41

Some of us had never been here before and had to be trained to read the menu and use chopsticks!!! I’d to take pity on them and let them use forks. It was a wonderful night out. Fabulous food, good fun and lovely company.

As usual, I ordered my favourite fried udon with special seafood and Chinese vegetables. We were oohing and aahing everytime a steaming bowl arrived. We were checking out what the other person ordered. I ordered a takeaway for Babe. He’d the special egg fried rice with Chinese vegetables. The smell was so tantalising.

We left at about 8pm cos there was a football match on at the Ricoh. We don’t want to be caught up with traffic on the way home. KW, HR and I made our way to the bus station. I called Babe and he’s going to meet me at the Arena Library. Thanks Babe.

In the bus, lots of drunkards on their way home. They were too drunk to cause any problems but they do stink. Babe was already there when I arrived. Then, a mighty roar erupted from the Ricoh. Sky Blues had scored their only goal against Nottingham Forest. Well done guys. They are meeting QPR thisWarwick University FZ28 10-02-2010 13-25-14 weekend. Good luck…

I was on my usual lunch walk when  I came across this Little Grebe. I could see him trashing furiously in the water. What’s going on? As I got closer, I saw that he’d caught a fish and was struggling to keep his dinner from escaping. Poor thing…I meant the fish :-)

Of course, the Grebe won the battle. After finishing his dinner, he swam towards the further end of the bank and went to s-l-e-e-p. He was bobbing peacefully in the shade.Warwick University FZ28 10-02-2010 13-34-10 It really made me smile.

How on earth could he fall asleep?  All around him were these Canada Geese and Greylags having a party. They were having a bath and making a lot of noise. They were splashing away happily and flapping their wings high above the water. It was a madhouse.

This pretty wagtail was waiting for me to feed him!! Incredible and of course I shared my lunch with him. Warwick University FZ28 09-02-2010 13-19-13I’m so gullible :-)

Tomorrow, I’m back in the university. I’ve signed for a Saturday class on Islamic Architecture. Loco or what??? Fingers-crossed it will be interesting. More on that after the class.

May the blessed sunlight shine upon you and warm your heart till it glows like a great fire and strangers may warm themselves as friends. And may the light shine out of the eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house, bidding the wanderer to come out of the storm.                                                                                   A traditional Irish blessing for Trish
