Feeling Autumnal

Autumn is the season when the trees are adorned with a brightly coloured cloak of orange, brown, yellow and gold. Slowly, they will drop these beautiful technicolour leaves, naked, and getting ready for the dark winter sleep ahead.

But it didn’t stop this circle of life.Warwick University 24-09-2009 12-16-02 I spotted them doing what they do best on a bright, chilly afternoon. They were so engrossed that I could practically shove my camera right under their noses. Isn’t it a beautiful sight?

It was also the autumn equinox on Tuesday. A time of equal light and dark, before Mother Earth turns with increasing darkness towards winter. I just adore the changes this time of year.

For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together for nature, it is a time of sowing, scattering abroad…

On Saturday morning, we went into town cos I need to have my eyes tested. We changed our minds when we saw a long queue to get into the car park and headed to Central Six. Ker—cing!!!

At Peacocks, I bought a pair of red sexy slouch ankle boots (winters’ coming :-)). We bought a few items for the kitchen from TKMaxx and I none of the clothes/shoes/handbags winked at me, which was a first. At Hobbycraft, bought a few more tools for making cards and a huge red velvet ribbon.

We left early cos there was another football match at the Ricoh. The traffic was beginning to build up. It must have been a thrilling match. Leon Best grabbed a dramatic equaliser four minutes into injury time as the Sky Blues came back from 2-0 down to draw with Middlesbrough. What a relief!!

Just before the match ended, we made our way to the playground. We wanted to catch the sunset which was always spectacular from the Carlton Hide. But we missed it.

The Common Snipe was busy feeding among the mudbanks. We could hear the cetti warbler warbling nearby and a sparrow hawk was seen hunting. Then this beauty made his appearance.Brandon Marsh D2h 26-09-2009 17-08-48 All you could hear was the whirring and the clicking of cameras. The kingfisher kept us entertained with his antics, hovering and diving. He was a real star.

Yesterday, Babe was having one of his bad days. He’d a throbbing headache and his neck was causing him so much pain. During times like this, all I could do is providing him with plenty of drinks and hot water bottle. Get well soon, darling.

I’ve got plenty of things to keep me occupied.  Outside our casa was this huge fir-like tree and Babe told me that heCoventry FZ28 27-09-2009 06-53-16 spotted a huge flock of goldfinches. On early Sunday morning I saw them and had a whale time taking photographs. The street was very quiet and I was able to get right under the tree. It was truly fantastic.

I did the laundry and vacummed the casa. I had braised beef and vegetables stewing in the slow cooker. I walked to the public library to return and borrow books. Then popped into Next to check out the sales. There was only a few rails left and nothing interesting.

In the evening made a blueberry upside down muffins. These are my last blueberries from the garden. I was surprised that I managed to get at least a kilo of blueberries from such a small shrub. Great value for money. I put too much batter into the muffin tins that it overflowed. But it taste heaven…

My neighbour just told me that house no. 1 was burgled on Saturday. WTF…That gives me the creeps. This is why we never like to leave the casa for too long and spending the night away is really hard. I do hope they catch that b-----d!!!
