Oh summer…thou art so fleeting…

The garden looked spent. I’ve picked the last courgettes and all the broad beans are in the freezer. The tomatoes are still ripening and they and the blueberries are picked daily. The pumpkin is slowly turning into its lovely colour. The sweet peas are flowering less. All my 11 pots of sunflowers are standing tall and some are beginning to fade away. Summer is slipping by.

Where was the predicted barbecue summer? I must have missed it. Our Mr. George Foreman didn’t even had the chance to get out. Fingers crossed next year…

The air smelt and felt autumnal…drying, yellowing leaves, ripening fruits, fungi popping everywhere, spider webs draped all over the garden and waning sunlight. At work, every morning the Canada Geese could be seen practising their v-shaped pattern outside my window.

It is also quite difficult to get dressed for the day. In the mornings, you’ll have the warm temperatures and the sunny days of September. But as the day passes by, the winds started to blow and the chill sets in. Summer is definitely saying farewell.

“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date”

~William Shakespeare~

I too are saying farewell to my grandmother who passed away on Friday morning in Malaysia. She had heart complications. Inna lilla wa inna lilla hirrajiun.*

I’m going to miss a wonderful woman, who was always there when I was growing up. The last time we met last year, she kept on pestering me for a blue-eyed blonde great grandchild. I already told her many times that not all Mat Salleh are blue-eyed and blonde. Anyway, Babe has brown eyes and hair.

I will always cherish our wonderful times together. I am going to miss her and I will always love her. She'll never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for her and may Allah bless her soul. Al-Fatehah.

*From Allah we come, to Allah we return.
