Never cast a clout till May is out

It is mid May and its gone chilly again. The above saying is soo very true. Don’t put your winter woolies away just yet. Last week, I was wearing a dress and heels and this week I was digging out my cardigans, boots and corduroys!!!

It has been raining the whole weekend. It’s gloomy, cold . . . wet. Spring had sprung away and it was back to winter!!! Gusty winds were blowing the various wind-chimes in the garden into a feisty orchestra, tumbling flowerpots, whipping leaves and loosening blossoms. Looked like a tornado had just passed by.

We spent the weekend chilling outCoventry 17-05-2009 10-33-47 in the casa. Most people are reluctant to stay at home, being domesticated, doing things seen old-fashioned. I don’t. I enjoyed being at home; gardening, reading, card-making, trying a new recipe and lots and lots of cuddling.

I enjoyed most is pottering in the garden especially now its spring. Observing tiny leaves unfurling from the dormant plants, planting new plugs, checking the greenhouse for new growth. And despite the cold and wet weather, my feathered friends still sang their hearts out with their happy songs.

I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think. –Rumi

We now have aCoventry 17-05-2009 10-34-58 bird feeder in the garden, with all sort of seed holders hanging from from it.  It’s now the in place for the feathered  gang to chitter, chatter and have a good meal. No bird leaves hungry. I have seen starlings, pigeons, blackbirds, blue tits, magpies, a robin, a wren and a squirrel (!). All are welcome.

We both enjoy hearing, watching   and of course photographing our feathered friends very much. They gave us so much joy and they do it for free. Coventry 15-05-2009 06-56-27Although  the mealworms are not cheap. I must also remember not to hang my laundry too close to the feeder. :-)

The European Parliamentary elections are coming soon on June 4th. The first pamphlet through our door is from the British National Party (BNP). Hmm….

Anyway, here’s what I think of them.

Did you watch the 54th Eurovision Song contest last night? I watched to show support to the lovely Jade and the song written for the contest by Andrew Lloyd Webber who played the piano. Jade did a beautiful job of singing and was placed a respectable fifth out of 25. This is  a much better result than in recent years. Anyway, congratulations to Norway on their win and to Jade and Andrew . . . you did us proud!

Also well done to Manchester United. They were worthy winners of the Premier League for an 11th time. They clinched their third-consecutive Premiership title, and 18th league title overall, by securing a 0-0 draw against Arsenal. I’m looking forward on the 27th to watch them defend the Champions League title against Barcelona.

It was also Dot’s birthday last Wednesday. She brought some delicious home-made cakes which was to die for. I’d a huge slice of her coffee and walnut cake. I was in the staffroom having my break when she came in. Everyone burst into a spontaneous ‘Happy birthday’ song that she was in tears. I hope it wasn’t the singing :-).

Made this today. It was very simple and delicious. Had it with steak pie and chips. An easy lunch for a cold, Sunday afternoon.

Keep warm and be safe.
