A Medieval Trip

We went into town to check out a restoration project open day. Black Swan Terrace in Upper Spon Street came to life with actors demonstrating the long-forgotten skills coventry 08-06-2008 12-58-54of weaving with a medieval loom, as well as traditional candle making and pottery-making.

The restored medieval terrace includes the Medieval Weaver's House, complete with the original wooden beams and wattle and daub construction on view, and fitted out with replica furniture. I wasn't able to take any photographs indoor cos the house was too tiny to cope with 21st century (size) visitors :-).

The Tudor garden was a let down cos it was empty.  A spade and a notice with what kinds of plants supposed to be in it was erected. Why? Couldn't they planted in a few as all of them were readily available. Still a lot need to be done but it was a good start.

Later, when it was much cooler, we checked out Brandon Marsh Coventry 08-06-2008 16-00-45our playground, at Brandon Marsh.  The reserve has suddenly became overgrown.  Yellow irises bloomed everywhere. The dragonflies and the beetles were busy mating.

The usual noisy crowd were there. Terns, Oyster Catchers and Coots were still nesting. Today's highlights were the Red Shank, Sandpiper, Jays and a Bullfinch. We spent over an hour with "Fat Jasper" who was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Barn Owl. He was still waiting when we left.

We dropped by at Mrs D's casa to collect my books and also to  wish her a safe journey. She and brood are off to homeland for the summer break. Lucky woman...

Yesterday, I had a girly outing with CC at our favourite Noodle Bar. We were celebrating our 2nd anniversary of our being sent to Coventry.

I'd the usual fried udon seafood special with vegs. CC had the egg fried rice with beef. All washed with steaming Chinese cha. Bonn Appetit.

Then we checked out Cheylesmore Manor House, the home of Coventry's Register office. I wanted to take photographs of this beautiful grade II listed building. Alas, a wedding was taking place. Best wishes to the newly weds.

We bought a few plants from the market and I saw a lovely Moroccan screen at the Pottery Shop. Told Kevin but he said it wouldn't fit in Benzy. Ergh...

Coventry 07-06-2008 11-18-01 I spotted a fuzzy ball of Garden Spiderlings  on  black fennel.

It was also the start of the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship.  Commonly referred to as Euro 2008, the beautiful game is taking place in Austria and Switzerland from 7 June to 29 June 2008.

It's going to be a quiet one without the English hooligans, the rousing God Save the Queen and English supporters antics. It's going to be a very loong summer.

Today Croatia spoiled host Austria's  party 1:0 while Podoski double gives Germans wins over Poland. Yesterday the Swiss lost to the Czechs 1:0. Then I changed channels to see Scolari's men bashing the Turks 2:0.  The games I'm looking forward to will be in Group C : Holland/Italy, Holland/France and Italy/France.

Which team will get to hold high the new version of the Henry Delaunay Trophy? I don't have any favourite. It would be a big upset if one of the underdogs wins.
